We kicked 2014 off with a bang at UFG, opening two new exhibitions for January. Our group show celebrates "When Old Meets New," assembling artworks from 2013 that reflect the artists' year, along with some brand new pieces from 2014 that signal new creative directions for this year. A range of subjects and media are on display, from abstract collage and painted landscapes to photographic portraits and mixed-media figure studies. The eclectic offerings showcase the exciting array of artist talent the Boston area has to offer, all collected in one place!
The featured artist for January is UFG gallery assistant Alex Kittle, whose series of original movie posters and movie-inspired prints are on view. These works, designed and drawn in Photoshop, are displayed in colorful hand-painted frames made just for this show, and their cinematic subjects include classic comedies like Bringing Up Baby, 80s musicals like Little Shop of Horrors, action heroines like Cleopatra Jones, and animated favorites like Tangled.
Both "When Old Meets New" and "Alex Kittle: At The Movies" run through Sunday, February 2. Stop by the gallery this month to see these fantastic works for yourself!
