A rising trend in various nerdy groups is that of cosplay, which involves dressing up as characters from comic books, television shows, films, video games, and other media. Especially popular at conventions and within online communities, these costumes are detailed and imaginative, and cosplayers will often roleplay and perform in character. They can be true to the source material or irreverent, sometimes combining different genres or styles to create something new (ie a zombie version of Superman). It's a fun and creative way to celebrate popular culture, one that's also communal and expressive. In honor of our Pop Culture Costume Party happening tomorrow night, I've collected some cool, eclectic examples of cosplay (click through the images for their sources).
Come on out to our party in your favorite pop culture outfit- whether it's an internet meme, celebrity, nerdy subgenre, musician, or film/tv character! It starts at 8pm on Saturday (October 18) and there'll be drinks, treats, and a dj, all for a $10 cover!
