UFG's September assignment show "Wordplay" kicks off fall with an appropriately academic theme, showcasing artworks that incorporate words, text, or characters. With poetry, book excerpts, labeling, calligraphy, typography, graffiti, and even business cards, participating artists were encouraged to share their love of language through their visual art. Last night, First Thursday visitors enjoyed tasty treats from gallery caterer Amanda Lomax (including a scrumptious upside down pineapple cake), conversations with artists, and an exciting activity with The Theater of Words and Music, whose representatives created on-the-spot poems inspired by visitor drawings. (Their group will be performing at UFG on September 27.) Several artists from our sci-fi art show on the Revolver, "The Truth is Out There," were also present to geek out over robots and Star Trek in a fancy gallery setting. Check out some photos from the reception below, and there's still time to see both shows if you missed out on the event!
"Wordplay" runs through September 29, 2013. "The Truth is Out There" runs through September 15, 2013.
