UFORGE’s newest exhibition on the Revolver wall is titled “Perjalanan Hidup,” Indonesian for “Life’s Journey.” It showcases the work of Chintia Kirana, a multi-talented artist currently earning her MFA at the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University. Her style and subject matter have transformed radically over the course of several years after fleeing her native Indonesia, and this show highlights the artist’s fascinating transitions in approach. Her earlier paintings are small, contemplative architectural studies, while her more recent work takes the form of large-scale abstract experimentations. At times reminiscent of Edward Hopper, at others of Sigmar Polke, Kirana moves fluidly between varying forms and media, employing paint, ink, canvas, textiles, paper, and encaustic to express her unique perspective on the world.

“Chintia Kirana: Perjalanan Hidup” is on view through November 10, 2013. The reception is Thursday, November 7, and the artist will be in attendance (visiting from Illinois), so stop by the gallery to learn more about these intriguing works!
