A genre of storytelling that includes everything from futuristic dystopian cities to travels through the outer reaches of space, science fiction is a diverse category that can provide endless inspiration for visual artists. For a special three-week-only Revolver exhibition, UFORGE Gallery has collected together 14 works by New England artists that reflect a sci-fi edge. Destructive robots, visions of outer space, advanced technology, and pop culture icons like Barbarella and Malcolm Reynolds are all represented here, with a few surprises in between.
Nerdy art exhibitions aren’t as common in Boston as they are in cities like Los Angeles and New York, so this show is a great opportunity for locals to geek out and share their sci-fi obsessions through a collection of truly fantastic artworks. “The Truth is Out There: The Art of Science Fiction” runs from Thursday, August 22 through September 15, 2013 (note: the gallery is closed for Labor Day weekend). The reception will be held on Thursday, September 5, from 6-8PM in conjunction with the opening for UFG’s September assignment show, “Wordplay”. Below are some photos from the show, but be sure to stop by the gallery to see these marvelous works with your own eyes and perhaps pick one to take home with you!
